I think that it is great to have objectives to teach to. The objectives that I use in my classroom typically reflect the E-GLCES and IEP goals that my students follow, since I teach in a self-contained cross categorical classroom. These objectives are shared annually with parents that their student's IEP. These objectives are not always shared with the students, which, I now see that it would be a good idea to. Also I need to share what I am expecting out of them more. I do not always directly state it or show it to the students. Having a rubric for this would be a great idea to keep the communication. I do not think I would hand out inidividual copies to the students though. They tend to lose things in their desks really easily, even when asked to put them in their folders that I have given them. Anchor charts are something that I have started using more. These are hanging up around classroom for students to look at. These charts typically have information to direct their writing and reading workshops. At this time we have a chart up with the 3 questions that I want them to answer regarding text-to-self connections during their silent reading time. We also have circle maps up that cover what schema and text to help them remember what each of them are. I typically hand out rubrics when I grade their writing papers.
I have tried to use rubristar before and did not like it. I didn't like how it was not very user friendly. I was able to understand it more this time, but I am still not a big fan of it. I do like to use rubrics to evaluate the student's writing, but may be able to use it in other areas as well. This particular rubric goes with our Lucy Calkins writing piece for launching the workshop.
